EFFECT OF ALCHOHOL ON CANCER



As we all know that drinking and smoking is injurious to health in many ways. But very few people are aware of the fact that consumption of alcohol may increase the risk of various types of cancer also. Some of the cancers that are most likely to develop by alcohol intake are- Mouth, Liver, Throat, Voice box, Esophagus, Colon and Rectum, Stomach, Pancreas and Breast Cancer.

Though a little amount of alcohol consumed once in a while cannot increase such risk of developing the disease, yet daily alcohol intake is always risky regarding your health. People who are addictive to drinking cannot overcome this habit instantly, so it is advisable that they should limit their daily consumption of alcohol to two drinks a day (men) and one drink daily for women. Such limit is recommended in lower quantity for women only because of their smaller bodies. Breaking down of alcohol occurs slowly in smaller sized bodies.

Alcohol consumption not only increase the risk of developing cancer in the body, but even if a person has already being diagnosed with cancer, then the risk of developing a new type of cancer increases with alcohol intake. Moreover, if someone is going through the cancer treatment, alcohol consumed even in very small amount can be highly risky. It not only worsen the condition of the patient, but there might be some serious side effects of alcohol intake with different cancer medication.

Alcohol normally effect our immune system. When our immune system is in good shape, malignant cells are destroyed by healthy cells in due course of time. But regular alcohol intake disturbs our immune system, hence slowing the process of destroying of malignant cells. This can further develop cancerous cells in our body.

Thus, in order to remain healthy, it is highly recommendable that one should stay away from alcohol as far as possible.
